What is a Social Entrepreneur?
The goal of social entrepreneurs is to achieve large-scale, systematic and sustainable social change. They introduce different approaches, look for inventions and new perspectives on existing technologies or strategies or a combination of the two. They set up innovative projects or companies with the aim of achieving large-scale, systematic and enduring social change.
Just as entrepreneurs create the climate of the business sector, social entrepreneurs sow the seeds of change in society. They grab opportunities, bring systems up for discussion and improve them. They create structural changes that benefit society.
While the common entrepreneur is driven by making a profit, the social entrepreneur focuses on improving society. The characteristics of both types of entrepreneurs are the same - they must be ambitious, strategic, shrewd and inventive and must work towards achieving results.
